Game Recap: Wolfpack down the Jets, remain undefeated

Hayward Wolfpack FC opened up WPASL league play with a dominating 7-0 win over Barron-based squad, Poskin Jets FC. Current starting goalkeeper Dru Senich missed the game with an illness, and with goalkeepers Cole Bergman and Riley Brennan out from injury, the Wolfpack's starting centerback Sebastian Paczuski stepped into net. The Wolfpack controlled the run of play throughout the entire half, and earned a penalty kick in the 14th minute. Yabkal Demelash took the kick, hitting the crossbar, but the rebound came back to his feet and the Dallas, TX native put the Pack up 1-0. Star forward Mally Lumsden continued his scoring rampage in the 19th and 23rd minutes, flying past the Poskin defense and slotting two Finigan Huffington assists into the back of the net. Mark Fehringer opened his Wolfpack scoring account, finishing off the Poskin goalkeeper's mishandling of Siji Gonzalez's shot in the 34th minute to give the Wolfpack a 4-0 lead heading into the half.

The second half was again commanded by the Hayward side. Huffington put the Wolfpack up by five on a great ball in from Cole Gewerth in the 60th minute. Donovan Kerry then scored his second goal of the year when he slotted home a nice ball into the box from Lumsden in the 66th minute. Lumsden completed his hat-trick, his fourth in the past four games, when he was taken down in the box and completed the ensuing penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Fill-in goalkeeper Sebastian Paczuski wasn't tested much and finished the game with 2 saves and a shutout, while the Wolfpack outshot the Jets 12-2.
