Superior City FC (5-0-0) at FC Minneapolis (0-3-0) | UPSL Premier League Game
Wednesday, May 17th | NBC Spartan Sports Complex (Superior, WI) | 7:30 PM CT
The City Lions from Minneapolis will make the trip up to Superior on what's looking to be a perfect night for some pre-professional soccer. Superior has started the season strong, so far flawless in their debut UPSL campaign. Behind a fast start from Mally Lumsden, and stellar defending from Matti Sysimaki, Nick Braun and Walker Marquardt, the team has been making the most of their opportunities and keeping clean sheets in over half of their games. The midfield trio of Ryan Tomsche, Raggi Carvalho and Harry Ambler has been looking more fluid the last few games, but with Ambler out due to injury this week, those in attendance can expect to see more from Guilherme Nadur and Arseno Hamilton. FC Minneapolis, after a very strong year in 2022, have struggled to find results this season. They have yet to win a game, but have battled some of the top teams in the UPSL and usually keep games close until the waning minutes. Expect a strong midfield from the Minneapolis squad, and a backline led by Northland College's Thomas Carey. This will be a good test for Superior City, and the squad's schedule continues to ramp up as they hit the halfway point of the season.
WHO ARE THEY?
FC Minneapolis were founded in 2013 and competed in the Minnesota Recreational Soccer League in the summer of 2014. The club then helped to found the American Premier Soccer League (APL) in 2015, the same league where Duluth FC got their start. FC Minneapolis won the APL title in 2015, and competed in the league until it folded after the 2016 season. After playing a year as an independant club, the City Lions joined the UPSL in 2018. The club is devoted to providing an outstanding on-field product as well as a memorable game-day experience, and strives to maintain high-level soccer and entertainment for residents of St Louis Park, MN, and surrounding communities.
HOW DID THEY DO LAST YEAR?
FC Minneapolis competed in the UPSL Premier Midwest-West Conference during the 2022 season, finishing in 3rd place with a 7-2-1 record. The squad lost in the first round of playoffs to Minneapolis City FC, by the score of 2-2 in a shootout.
Superior City will make the long trip to Austin, MN to take on currently undefeated Austin Villa FC on Saturday night at 7:00 PM CT. FC Minneapolis return home on Saturday to take on Twin City FC at Park Center HS.
