GAME PREVIEW

With college players starting to return, both squads might have different looks from last week's lineups. Superior will look to improve after a shaky, yet successful, 1-0 win over Twin City last weekend. The squad will look forward to gaining St. Scholastica players, in addition to UW-Superior star Harry Ambler, who will look to shore up the squad defensively. Maplebrook has a chip on their shoulder after dropping a 2-0 lead in the last 15 minutes of last week's match, tying Worthington in their first UPSL game of the 2023 season. The club will be difficult to break down, with Drake University's Luke Anderson in net and a spine supported by former MPLS City player Jacob Simons and former UW-Superior midfielder Miguel Ocampo. This game will have more structure to it than last week's match, and any mistakes caused by the wet turf conditions could be the difference in this matchup.

WHO ARE THEY?

Maplebrook 58ers are the senior club of Maplebrook Soccer Club, a historied youth club based in Maple Grove, MN. The 58ers were founded in 2019 and joined the UPSL for the 2020 season. Rostered players on the 58ers are required to be coaches, trainers or former players of the youth organization. The club recently helped to build the Fernbrook Athletic Fields, a 10.2 million development project. The club also has a women's pre-professional team, the MapleBrook Fury, who compete in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

HOW DID THEY DO LAST YEAR?

Maplebrook 58ers competed in the UPSL Premier Midwest-West Conference during the 2022 season, finishing in 6th place with a 3-4-3 record.

LOOKING FORWARD:

Superior City have a busy week ahead, with a road game in St. Cloud against Granite City FC on Friday night, before returning home for a 6:00 PM CT match on Saturday, May 13th against Worthington Community FC. Maplebrook 58ers play newcomers St. Paul Blackhawks on May 13th in Maple Grove, MN.
