The Superior City Football Club (SCFC) opened its United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) season at its new home, Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium, for a back-and-forth season-opening match against Karen Football Association in front of a record-breaking crowd in an exciting 3-3 tie. 

From the opening whistle, both teams played at a high-tempo pace, trading possession. In the sixth minute of the first period, Felipe Oliveira scored his first goal for the Navy off a deflection in the box, giving the Navy a 1-0 lead. 

Just two minutes later, SCFC had another scoring chance as forward Mally Lumsden found space outside the box before it was saved by the Karen FA goalkeeper Rahun Her. 

In the 31st minute, Karen FA created a breakaway before goalkeeper Gray Knutson stepped out on the top of the box and stole the ball on a one-on-one, saving a goal for the Navy, and just a minute later, made another great save to keep it 1-0.

In the 34th minute, Than Soe broke away on the right side of the box using his left leg to find the back left of the net and tie the match 1-1. 

In the 40th minute, Ryan Tomsche found Mally Lumsden loose on the right end of the box as he approached the baseline, he snuck the ball past Rahun Her to take the 2-1 lead. 

The first half ended with two Karen FA scoring opportunities, the first on a free kick and the second on a corner, both shots missed wide right as the half ended. 

The earliest scoring chance in the second half came in the 50th minute as Lumsden found Hunter Nelson inside the left side of the box, but his close-range shot was deflected out of bounds by Rahun Her. 

In the 54th minute, the first yellow card was issued to Alek Pyrah, but Karen FA was unable to capitalize on the free kick opportunity. 

In the 64th minute, Thein Kyaw hit the equalizer goal on a beautiful 50-yard lead pass from #5 as he was set up for a one-on-one with Knutson to tie it up 2-2.

In the 66th minute, Superior City's Cameron Ross was given a yellow card, setting up Karen FA's Camel Too for a penalty kick in the box, which was able to break the tie, taking the 3-2 lead for Karen FA.

In the 77th minute, SCFC had their best chance to tie it at three as a Freddy Watson center pass found Mally Lumsden in the box, and a swift pass to Oliveira led to a shot that found the back of the net but was withdrawn due to offsides on the Navy. 

As the game went into extra time, Freddy Watson shuffled a pass backwards to Lundin Flohaug for the shot on goal that was deflected but picked up by Will Francis, who scored the 3-3 equalizer as the game would end in a tie. 

Next up for the Navy, they will be facing the Granite City Football Club in St. Paul, Minn., on Wednesday, May 6.
